AI Postcards โ One Artwork for the Envelope, Your Emails and the Shared Link
A postcard is a single portrait artwork that follows your invitation everywhere a picture can make a first impression:
- It is the card that slides out of the envelope when a guest opens the invitation, and flips over to a handwritten back with their name (or a warm "Our dear guest" on open registration links) and your message.
- Switch it on and it is the cover image at the top of your invitation, save-the-date and reminder emails whenever the template has no cover of its own.
- It is the preview image shown when the invitation link is pasted into WhatsApp, iMessage, Slack or a social post.
You can generate one with AI from one or two photos of the hosts, or upload your own portrait image. Each of the three uses has its own switch: the envelope and the link preview are on as soon as you set a postcard, while emails only use it once you turn that on โ so your emails keep looking exactly as they do until you decide otherwise.
Step 1: Open the Postcard Studio
- Go to your event in the dashboard and open Invitation โ Design
- Expand the Postcard section (it sits right above Envelope Opening)
The Postcard section is part of the AI Design Studio early access. If you don't see it yet, open the AI Studio tab and request access there; the section appears as soon as it is granted.
The top of the section always shows your current postcard and where it is used. Below it is the generator.
Step 2: Pick Photos of the Hosts
Choose up to three photos from your event's asset library, or add new ones with Add photos. Clear, well-lit photos with faces visible work best โ one photo of each partner is the classic setup, and the artwork keeps their likeness in every style. Photos from the AI Design Studio library are the same library, so anything you uploaded there is already here.
You can also generate without photos: the postcard is then purely illustrative, with no people in it.
Step 3: Choose Styles and Details
Pick the art directions you want to try โ up to four per batch, each a different postcard:

Then decide whether the event name and date are written on the artwork (on by default) and, optionally, leave a note for the artist โ colors to favor, a pet to include, the season, the venue.
Every style spends one AI image from your event's allowance; the counter next to the generator shows how many are left, and it is shared with the artwork the AI Design Studio generates. The assistant refuses a batch bigger than what is left, so nothing is half-painted.
Paid events and subscription events get the full per-event allowance. Free events get a small trial allowance to try the postcards, and that trial is shared by every free event on your account: opening or recreating free events does not refill it. Upgrade the event to a paid plan to keep generating.
Step 4: Generate and Pick
Click Generate. The cards are painted in the background โ about a minute โ and appear one by one. Click Use this postcard under the one you love and it becomes the event postcard immediately. Cards you did not pick stay in your asset library, so you can come back to them later.
Prefer your own design? Upload your own accepts any portrait image (a 2:3 ratio looks best) and sets it as the postcard in one step.
Where the Postcard Appears
Three switches under your current postcard control its uses:
- Slides out of the envelope โ the card inside the envelope opening. With this on, the envelope can also use the postcard as its photo stamp.
- Cover image on invitation emails โ off by default. Turn it on and the postcard tops invitation, save-the-date and reminder emails whenever the template has no cover image uploaded in the email editor. A cover you upload there always wins, and the send dialog lets you pick between the two for each send.
- Preview when the invitation link is shared โ replaces the hero photo as the link preview image. Portrait cards are shown whole on a soft neutral background, never cropped to a strip.
With a use off, that surface behaves as before (the envelope shows the handwritten letter card, emails show no cover, the link preview shows the hero photo).
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does the postcard replace my hero image? A: No. The hero (cover) image stays on the invitation page itself. The postcard only takes over the envelope card, the email cover and the link preview โ and only where its switch is on.
Q: Will the people in the artwork look like us? A: The generator paints from the photos you attach and is told to keep faces, hair and skin tone as they are. Illustrated styles simplify features by design; the photographic styles (editorial monochrome, minimal modern, film poster) stay closest to the originals. Generate two or three styles and pick the best likeness.
Q: Can I write the names differently, or in another language? A: The artwork uses your event name and date exactly as written on the event. Rename the event or turn off "Write the event name and date on the artwork" and add your own wording on the envelope card message instead.
Q: Can my connected AI assistant do this? A: Yes. Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini connected through the Fotify MCP server can list the styles, start a batch from photos already in your library, poll the results and set the postcard for you.
Q: I have no AI images left. Can I still set a postcard? A: Yes โ Upload your own does not use the AI allowance, and cards from earlier batches are still in your asset library.
